The Khek River is not a big river amidst mixed forests with up to 18 rapids i.e. Kaeng Sarng rapids, Kaeng Yao rapids and Kaeng Nang Koy rapids. Each rapids has different challenges and water current strengths differs according to the water level; during the rainy season the currents are stronger. A strong feature of this river is tourists can ride the rapids with rubber rafts starting from Sappraiwan landing at Ban Pak Yang until Kaeng Song rapids for a distance of 8 kms. in not more than 3 hours time depending on the water level. The rapids you can experience are as follows.
Kaeng Tha Kham Difficulty level 1-2
     Kaeng Sai Difficulty level 3-4
Kaeng Pak Yang Difficulty level 2-3
Kaeng Hin Lad Hold on to the raft very carefully
Kaeng Suan Ratchamangkala Difficulty level 3-4
     Kaeng Sarng Difficulty level 4-5
Kaeng Soparam A S-bend with milder currents
Kaeng Nang Koy Difficulty level 4-5
Kaeng Yao Difficulty level 3-4 depending on water level
When Kaeng Sarng, Kaeng Nang Koy and Kaeng Yao have been conquered, the rest would not be difficult such as Kaeng Kongsak or Kaeng Wang Nam Yen with difficulty level 1-2. Swimming is possible and good for relaxing the muscles in the last rapids: Kaeng Thak Khun Thai rapids which is also the end station of the 18 rapids.
Precautions for rafting in the Khek River
The Khek River has a rather strong current and in the rainy season swimming is not possible in the waterfalls and rapids but rafting is still possible. Important is that rafting participants and those who would like to wade in the river must be able to swim, in good condition and know how to take care of oneself as the stronger the current becomes, accidents are prone to occur easier as well.
